I am a social work student and I am trying to find information that supports the allegations about the golden fleece retirement plan for politicians. Can you help me find concrete proof that this is true and perhaps information on the plan they use?

Thanks,
LeAnna Sharber

Hello LeAnna,

I apologize for not responding before now, but I hope this might answer your question and assist you in your class assignment, if it's not too late. Most, if not all, of the allegations regarding the "golden Fleece retirement plan" are not true.

Below is information from snopes.com that seems to be accurate. For the truth about congressional retirement information, check this URL and the Social Security Website, http://www.ssa.gov/history/hfaq.htm and this URL at C-Span,
http://www.c-span.org/questions/weekly68.htm
which are reliable sources. I hope it helps you. One of the rumors about the golden fleece retirement slipped through on our site, and it will be removed.
