CLINTON'S BURNING BRIDGE EXIT

Those who say Clinton made a fitting exit hit the mark by concluding the Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky scandals but they fall short of nailing his unconscionable 11th hour behavior. Indeed, 8 years in the White House brought his monarchial arrogance to a pardonable head, which is exactly what he did for himself and undeserving others.

Clearly, Bill Clinton will go down in history as an unequaled master of denial and the abuse of power, craving the spotlight to the end like it was a narcotic, and his last day in office as his last fix. But political pardons and paybacks aside, the man has taken a much greater toll on America.

He simply squandered the morals and integrity of the office and society, while blatantly wasting the country's resources on foreign affairs and the taxpayer's money on unnecessary travel expenses. Contrary to Clinton's belief, the office of President of the United States is not being "king for a term," or two.

Though he forgave himself, much of what is did cannot be forgiven. Alas, the only end befitting this former president would be to retire him completely to the status of a private citizen, without retirement benefits or public expenditures of any kind. Certainly, he used up those rights on presidential evils and the failures of good intentions.

Indeed, the holes in government and our culture left by the Clinton era should be filled with more democracy.
