The 2000 presidential debates have been reduced to childish bickering and political arrogance between Democrats, Republicans and the news media. If nothing else, it is clear and convincing evidence that the two-party system, pre-selected candidates and media campaigns are highly disturbing failures reflected by government as usual.
Regardless of their prospects of winning, presidential candidates such as Ralph Nader (Green Party), Pat Buchanan (Reform Party), Harry Browne (Libertarian Party) and John Hagelin (Reform/Natural Law Coalition Party) should be included in any presidential debates, if for no other reason, because they have been recognized by the media and a majority of states as being qualified to be placed on the ballot.
Better yet, when voters are steadily shifting away from political parties to comprise an independent voter majority, why not simply make federal elections nonpartisan? Democracy and the republic would be far better served.
