CASUAL ATROCITIES
December 16, 2001

What was most disturbing about watching Osama bin Laden's taped confession released by the Pentagon December 13th was the casual, satisfying manner in which he discussed his atrocities against America with several of his co-conspirators.

Indeed, it seemed like watching a successful group of sportsmen sitting around a campfire dinner, telling hunting and fishing stories about their catch and prey of the day.

But it was even more chilling when Bin Laden concluded by reciting the last lines of a poem declaring his deadly intentions, obviously, referring to America's presence in Islamic lands and his unholy war, mistakenly waged in the name of Allah:

"...And over weeping sounds now
We hear the beats of drums and rhythm...
They are storming his forts
And shouting:
"We will not stop our raids
Until you free our lands."
