Clinton ignores the American people with his foreign policy blunder in Kosovo Yugoslavia FOREIGN POLICY BLUNDER: Kosovo Yugoslavia This is a perfect example of why the American people should be involved in the foreign policy decision making process by means of direct democracy: The President's Deputy National Security Advisor James Steinberg was interviewed by Wolf Blitzer on CNN's Late Edition Sunday April 4, 1999. Blitzer displayed a poll of the American people regarding the bombing of Serbia and its effect on Kosovar Albanians. 22 percent said the bombing made things better for the Kosovar Albanians. 64 percent said the bombing made things worse. Blitzer asked Steinberg to comment on the poll. Steinberg ignored the poll and suggested that Blitzer ask the Kosovar Albanians how they feel about it. On April 5, 1999, flanked by the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, President Clinton held a briefing on the war in Yugoslavia. He was pressed by ABC News Sam Donaldson with the question of whether or not his goals for the Kosovar Albanians were being accomplished by the air attack campaign. Clinton responded by refusing to answer the question and leading his group off the stage. President Clinton is chiseling yet another foreign policy blunder into his legacy with short-sighted, questionably timed, air strikes against Serbia that intensified the purging of ethnic Albanians from Kosovo. His actions have destabilized Montenegro, overwhelmed Albania, burdened Macedonia and increased the likelihood of committing our troops to an unnecessary ground war in Yugoslavia. Clinton has proven himself to be an inept Commander-in-Chief as evidenced by a stack of military, national security and foreign policy fiascoes in Africa, Asia and the Middle-East. He simply turned his back and abandoned Rwanda to massive tribal genocide. He stepped into Bosnia and got our foot stuck in the door. Now, he's bound and determined to do "something" in Europe, "at any cost." The President hasn't the credibility to parse the words of intent, national security or genocide. NATO is a defense alliance under no identifiable threat from Yugoslavia or its provincial history of civil strife. History will undoubtedly record Bill Clinton as a manipulating social meddler who played careless CNN video war games and left the world littered with the failures of good intentions.
